Quark Establishes Quark Virtual Knowledge Base: "A Tech at Your Fingertips"
New Virtual Knowledge Base Empowers Customers with Easily Accessible, High Quality, 24/7 Self-Service Technical Support Tools

Denver, Colorado - August 6, 2008 - Quark announced today the establishment of the Quark® Virtual Knowledge Base, a virtual "Tech at Your Fingertips." Quark's Virtual Knowledge Base was created to empower customers with a 24/7 self-service technical support tool. Offered as an addition to Quark's current technical support options, including free phone-based technical support, the Virtual Knowledge Base is designed so that creative professionals and those supporting them can quickly find answers to questions and solutions to technical problems.

Paul Brothe, Senior Vice President of Customer Service and Operations stated, "Quark customers desire the latest technology when interacting with us. The Virtual Knowledge Base provides another valuable option to our existing support of live telephone, chat and email support."

Two Tools: Quark Knowledge Base and Self-Service Portal
There are two main tools associated with the Virtual Knowledge Base: the Knowledge Base itself and the Self-Service Portal. The Quark Knowledge Base allows customers to access technical articles that offer solutions to commonly encountered problems, explanations for application behaviors, and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ). More than just a listing of issues often encountered on the web sites of software developers, each Quark solution includes a background section where an in-depth technical analysis is given for specific software behavior.

"The point of including a background section for each solution is to offer customers more than a static and simplistic listing of software issues," said Craig Lanning, Solutions Manager for the Virtual Knowledge Base Team. "We wanted to create a dynamic tool that contains information that can help customers build their own technical understanding of particular software issues or behaviors. That way, if a similar production issue comes up in the future, they will know right away how to handle it."

The Self-Service Portal
Users can also access the customer Self-Service Portal from the Knowledge Base. In the Self-Service Portal they can log cases, track the status of cases, and comment on solutions provided through the portal. Customer insights logged in this manner can be added to new or existing Solutions in the Knowledge Base. In order to use the portal customers will need to request log-in information from the Virtual Knowledge Base team. Once logged into the portal, they can also view solutions that relate to their problem.

Quark is committed to world-class customer service and with the Virtual Knowledge Base now available, and hundreds of solutions either already posted or scheduled for posting, customers have access to the information they want, when they want it, through the communication channels that make most sense to them.

The following links will take you to the Self Service Portal and Public Knowledge Base for each major product line:

Desktop Customers:
-- Self-Service Portal: http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/support/techinfo/vkb.html

-- Public Knowledge Base: http://dynamicpublishing.quark.com/support/knowledge_center.html

SigMaker 3 Goes Multilingual
Perhaps English is not your first or best language? And you want to add a symbol, character or signature to a font? Or to create your own "fontlet" with maybe only a single character? If your preferred language is French, German, Spanish, Japanese or Chinese it's now a lot easier!

SigMaker 3
With SigMaker 3, the user picks an image; optionally opens one of the fonts installed on their system; chooses the keystroke position under which the new symbol will be available - and SigMaker does the rest. It will generate a modified version of the original font or - new in version 3 - a tiny one-glyph font, either in the Adobe InDesign-compatible SING glyphlet format, or as a universally usable OpenType "fontlet". And now you can get the whole thing - GUI and user manual - in the language of your choice!

The European and Japanese language versions of SigMaker 3 for Mac OS X and Windows retails for about EUR29.95. And all products from Fontlab Ltd. carry a 60-day satisfaction guarantee. For more information visit the SigMaker page at

Image Source launches “Sneak Preview” – portraits for advertising and design with attitude and authenticity
Image Source launches “Sneak Preview” – portraits for advertising and design with attitude and authenticity

Image Source, the world's leading independent producer of royalty free stock photography, today announces the launch of its showcase catalogue “Sneak Preview” demonstrating its latest collection of high end imagery including a folio of World Portraits, the innovative ‘Fair Trade’ photo collection that directly benefits the people photographed. The uniqueness of World Portraits is that every time a photo is sold, the sitter receives a royalty and can share in the profits.

The new 54 page booklet is innovative in its touch, feel and creative format and is set to inspire designers worldwide. Working closely with Hamburg based designers, elbstern.com, Image Source wanted to draw in modern media techniques combined with traditional artisan skills, hence the unusual cover of 4 colour print coldfoil on 350 gram Profigloss paper stock. Internally, showcasing the contrasting collections of raw World Portraits against the highly polished Celebrity styled portraiture are two distinct paper stocks of 150grm Taurus Offset white naturepaper and150 g/gm Profigloss glossy white.

“It is some time since Image Source produced a print book, as we have chosen to work increasingly in other media, partly to reach a growing customer database online and partly to demonstrate our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint” said Christina Vaughan, Image Source Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “Whilst we are dedicated to exploring all aspects of cross-media communication, we decided to showcase this current collection in paper format as we remain excited about how well our images work in print and we want to confirm to any designer that they can be bold in using our imagery large and out loud”.

The release of this new book comes at a time when Image Source continues to push forward the boundaries of creativity and is exploring the mélange of its world-renowned slick photo production style of strong creative direction and high production values, with authentic Fair Trade world imagery. It follows on from the highly successful ‘Open Your Eyes’ brand campaign, which demonstrated Image Source’s engagement with the design and advertising community as a partner for compelling and commercially relevant imagery. “It’s a great book for designers to get their hands on, but its just the tip of the iceberg of what Image Source has to offer in creative photography” adds Vaughan.

“Sneak Preview” is available now from Image Source direct sales offices in London, Cologne and New York.

Ends.

K4 conquers important Asian market
K4 conquers important Asian market: New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad are producing with SoftCare K4
Malaysian Sales Partner Papyrus Media to Exhibit at Publish Asia in Macao together with SoftCare and CoreMedia

Malaysia’s largest newspaper publishing house, New Straits Times Press Berhad, will publish three daily magazine sections of its newspapers using the SoftCare K4 Publishing System. The publishing house announced that the layout production of its popular tabloids, “News Straits Times” and “Harian Metro”, as well as the “Berita Harian” newspaper has almost been fully converted to Adobe InDesign and SoftCare K4. Altogether those publications reach more than 2,6 million enthusiastic Malaysian readers per day. Papyrus Media, SoftCare‘s official K4 integrator for Malaysia, is in charge of implementing the software. In April, Papyrus Media and SoftCare will present the K4 Publishing System to the Asian publishing industry at the Publish Asia tradeshow in Macao, China at Booth 10a. Also on board: CoreMedia, SoftCare’s technology partner for cross-media publishing. CoreMedia’s CMS and K4 offer an integrated solution for multi channel publishing that has already gained a lot of interest at the CeBIT in Germany earlier this spring.

SoftCare K4 is increasingly gaining ground in global markets: “Papyrus Media is a competent and reliable local contact partner for Asian publishers who are interested in a professional publishing solution,” says Birgit Rosenthal, Director of Business Development at SoftCare. The recent purchase of New Straits Times Press Berhad supports this statement: The traditional Malaysian publishing house bought 70 K4 seats. K4 won out over competitive products, because it was especially easy to integrate into the publisher‘s existing IT infrastructure. For example, they are using K4 Drop Folders to automatize check-in to the system for their existing customized text and picture files and an ad planning system. Another reason was that relatively few training sessions were required to prepare the employees for the new system.

“As the number of Adobe InDesign users at New Straits Times Press grows, organizing the users’ work has proved to be an arduous task,” said Abdul Rahman Hashim, Head of IT at New Straits Time Press. “We found K4 most convincing, since it allows us to manage all InDesign documents in a central database. At the same time, the documents are available to editors without access to InDesign and can be proof-read by freelancers outside New Straits Times Press via the K4 Web Editor. The K4 XML Exporter makes it especially easy to export layouts and repurpose them for the internet or for the magazines’ archives,” adds Abdul Rahman. Papyrus Media supports the publisher during the entire conversion process: The Malaysian integrator company has fed all existing InDesign documents into the system, assisted with the setup of a logical workflow for all publications, and has trained the staff on the new system. As the first publication of New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad the lifestyle magazine “Harian Metro” is expecting to have entirely switched to K4 by the end of March.

85 daily newspapers, 900 non-daily publications, 23 television stations: Gannett is THE media company of the USA - and now also a K4 customer. Arizona-based Gannett subsidiary Gannett Pacific Publishing (GPP) purchased SoftCare K4, the popular editorial system for Adobe InDesign and InCopy. K4 distributor Managing Editor Inc. (MEI) recently announced this latest K4 deal to the U.S. press.

“In choosing K4, Gannett Pacific Publishing is paving the way for the next era of publishing,” says Steven Haught, vice president of sales for MEI. “The company is seizing the opportunity to boost an alternative revenue stream by installing state-of-the-art tools. There is clear recognition that now is the time to take the already strong Gannett brand and build it through ancillary publishing”, says Haught. With K4, GPP has found a robust system that can easily serve its different media channels, such as Web and Print. Gannett Pacific Publishing comprises seven unique print and online products covering several national and international markets. Along with MustDo magazines, GPP manages Hawaii.com, 101Things to Do magazines, 101ThingstoDo.com, MustDoTravel.com, Your Health Monthly, Community magazines and TV y Mas.

“Publishers want an innovative yet robust software that is not too pricey, either,” says Andreas Schrader, CEO for SoftCare. “That is why SoftCare K4 is so successful on international markets. We provide newspapers and magazines with solutions that can improve the efficiency of their workflow and strengthen their bottom line.” K4, based on Adobe InDesign and InCopy, is a professional design and editorial workflow system that manages the work of graphic designers, writers and editors into a streamlined production process. The system features multi-level security controls, open SQL architecture and robust customization options that can scale from individual workgroups to entire publishing enterprises. X-Rite Introduces Enhanced Line of Plate Control Solutions

Offers the industry’s highest level of accuracy; new firmware and software improvements support latest screening and plate technologies and
FOGRA Measuring Bar standard

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, March 13, 2008 -- X-Rite, Incorporated, (NASDAQ:XRIT) a global leader in color technology, today announced its new, enhanced line of plate control solutions designed to meet the wide ranging needs and budgets of pre-press and printing professionals.  Designed to improve on-press productivity, and drastically reduce down-time costs and production waste, X-Rite’s plate control solutions offer the industry’s highest level of accuracy, repeatability, and imaging range, including extreme highlights and shadows.  Featuring new firmware and software that support the latest screening and plate technologies and the FOGRA FMB measuring bar standard, X-Rite’s new plate control portfolio includes:

·         iCPlate2: offers a high level of plate reading accuracy for standard plate reading applications.  Featuring a high camera resolution, automatic calibration and a very long battery life, X-Rite’s iCPlate2 is available in two configurations:  iCPlate2 X, which is most suited to customers who only troubleshoot their plates occasionally but who need a highly accurate device to help them easily diagnose problems; and iCPlate2 XT, which is ideal for customers who regularly check plates but don’t necessarily print to a control or to an industry standard. iCPlate2 supports current screening technologies including AM, FM, hybrid and concentric screening.

·         PlateScope: this new version of PlateScope (version 6.1) offers unsurpassed accuracy and repeatability for the latest plate screening technologies.  It supports all current screening technologies including AM, FM, XM and hybrid screen types.   PlateScope is ideal for customers who are disciplined about process control, printing to standards such as SWOP, Gracol (G7), FOGRA or ISO, or who are coordinating output between multiple CTP devices.

“Our plate control solutions are designed to give printers the confidence of knowing their plates are right the first time, every time,” comments Chris LaFontaine, X-Rite’s worldwide market manager for print.  “When you consider the time and expense involved with running today’s press operations, and the tight profit margins printers operate under, having control over plate quality, and being able to trouble shoot problems quickly and accurately can make the difference between making or losing money on a job.”

Using cutting-edge plate reading advances, X-Rite’s plate control solutions support the latest plate and screening technologies, including process-less, low latency plates (i.e. Fujifilm Pro-T)  as well as standard offset plates. A complete list of supported plates is available from http://www.xrite.com/documents/apps/public/misc/en/PlateScope_iCPlate2_Supported_Plates_en.pdf.

X-Rite’s plate control solutions are equipped with high resolution black and white cameras, to ensure that the edges of dots are accurately detected and reliably measured, even when dealing with extreme highlights and shadows, the areas of most concern in the print process.

X-Rite plate control devices provide language-independent operation with an easy to use, icon-based graphical user interface (GUI), and clear visual readings of plate characteristics via a large LCD display. Each model comes complete with a handheld plate reader, a calibration target, and Capture Tool software to transfer measurement data to any Windows application. All of X-Rite’s plate reader devices are designed for both right- and left-handed operation.

In addition, the new line of plate control solutions features X-Rite’s PlateQuality software, to provide consistent plate quality that is verifiable, allowing users to measure and keep track of their goals and progress over time.  PlateQuality is available as a standard feature of PlateScope and as an option for iCPlate2.

X-Rite’s iCPlate2 and PlateScope plate control solutions are available immediately from X-Rite and its extensive global network of authorized re-sellers.  Existing iCPlate II customers (Basic or Advanced) wishing to upgrade to the new iCPlate2 (X or XT) functionality, can purchase an upgrade from X-Rite (for a complete list of upgrade options and pricing, please visit: www.xrite.com). All existing PlateScope customers can update their devices to the latest version for free.

Improve Your Workflow and Save Money on Your Production Seminar
XChange International and Quark, Inc announce Free “Improve Your Workflow and Save Money on Your Production” Seminar with Software Prize Drawings

London, UK – XChange International, the source for extended technology worldwide, are pleased to announce a free seminar, showing businesses -- small and large -- how to instantly save money on their production. The seminar, co-sponsored with Quark, Inc., Markzware, and Enfocus, will be in London on 29th and 30th, April, 2008. Production departments, designers, printers, and anyone working with PDFs and web sites will benefit from the seminar and will have the opportunity to find out how to start saving money on their day-to-day operations. Additionally, attendees are automatically entered to win in a drawing for software prizes totalling over £1000.00.

“In today’s economy, publishing professionals are always looking for ways to work smarter and faster. Time is money, and we constantly get calls to our pre-sale technical support staff asking what is out there to help speed production of tedious tasks, repetitive handling of data, catalog and brochure production, as well as design tools to streamline processes,” states Greg Stodghill, Support Services Manager for XChange International.

“Since the majority of users are “amazed” to see the available tools and utilities, and find out how they instantly save money on these tools, we wanted to give desktop-publishing professionals a chance to see these tools in action and to answer questions that pertain to their specific production needs. Without paying a consult fee, they can find out how to save time and
money right away.”

Historically, users have had to go to tradeshows or now, online to webinars, to see products demonstrated and a lot of users want to ask specific questions as to options available to them that work with their exact production needs. Some extensions, such as Xdata/InData and Xcatalog/InCatalog, fully automate complete mail merge and catalogue production, saving businesses and users thousands of pounds with the first use. Other extensions save designers hours of layout time per project. The seminar is geared to show the most time-saving tools
obtainable.

The seminar will be an all-day event, and will be held in the XChange Training facilities at 17-18 Britton St, Clerkenwell, London EC1M 5NQ in Central London with reservations being taken on a first-come first-served basis.

“We fully expect users to leave the seminar in awe of the options out there for ridding them of previously monotonous or labour-intensive tasks,” states Greg Stodghill. “When they see what exists, they can’t believe they have gone so long without them.”

To sign up for the seminar or for more information, users can visit http://www.xchangeuk.com, or call on +44(0)20 7490 4455 during UK business hours. Email address is info@xchangeuk.com.

BarcodeMaker CS3 Gets New Features
BarcodeMaker, the popular and easy-to-use Teacup Software plug-in, now lets you print your barcodes in CMYK process and spot colors! Now users who are printing an entire book cover using a single CMYK spot color can use BarcodeMaker for their book designs.

Additionally, we've added five new barcodes to BarcodeMaker, bringing the total number we support up to 27. The US Postal Service is moving to a new barcode format, called OneCode or Intelligent Mail, which we're now supporting. We've also added support for Australia's postal barcode, AusPost, and support for GS1 DataBar and GS1 DataBar Limited (formerly known as RSS-14 and RSS Limited). Finally, we're also supporting a barcode used by the pharmaceutical industry called PharmaCode.

And if that's not enough, the new version of BarcodeMaker now offers new text placement and justification features. Want your text to appear above your barcode, right justified? Before, you'd have to make your own text frame and place it manually. Now, with just a few clicks on the palette, your text is right where you want it to be.

And how much do all these new features cost? If you're already using BarcodeMaker, they don't cost a thing. Just download and install the latest version from our website and you're ready to go. Existing CS and CS2 users will need to upgrade to the CS3 version to get these new features. You can upgrade on our website here http://www.teacupsoftware.com/index.html.

BarcodeMaker supports 27 barcode patterns (AusPost, Code 2 of 5, 11, 39, 93, 128 and UCC-EAN-128, EAN-2, EAN-5, EAN-8, EAN-13, FIM, GS1 DataBar, GS1 DataBar Limited, ISBN (10 and 13), ISSN, Interleaved 2 of 5 and ITF-14, KIX, MSI, USPS OneCode, PharmaCode, Plessey, USPS Postnet, Rationalized Codabar, RoyalMail, UPC-A, and UPC-E) and still retains all of its original features, such as adding numbers, changing fonts and font size, controlling barcode heights, and including or excluding checksum digits. Check out this powerful plug-in at Teacup Software!

New Automation Scripts for BarcodeMaker
Teacup has new scripts available to show you how you can automate BarcodeMaker. The first is a simple starter script that demonstrates changing one barcode setting for every barcode in a document. If you want all your barcodes to have a new ink spread, you can use this script to quickly and easily make that change, regardless of how many barcodes you have in your document.

The second script shows you how to make barcodes from a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file. The script demonstrates reading in a barcode number and then applying the barcode based on values found in the CSV file. The script can be easily customized to meet your needs.

Working with these scripts does require at least a minimal amount of scripting experience working with JavaScript. You can download them from our website.

Check us out in the Miami

Quark Releases Free Book on Using QuarkXPress 7 with Adobe Creative Suite 3
Quark Online Book Outlines How QuarkXPress 7 Can Be Integrated with Adobe Creative Suite 3 to Achieve Optimum Results

LONDON - 12-13-2007 Quark Inc. announced today that it has created a book outlining how QuarkXPress® 7 can be integrated with Adobe® Creative Suite® 3 to gain maximum benefit from both design tools. Written by Quark® internal experts, the book details how users can work with QuarkXPress 7 as well as Adobe applications such as Illustrator®, Photoshop®, Dreamweaver® and Flash® to unlock the full potential of all their design software.

QuarkXPress 7 now has better integration with Photoshop and Illustrator tools than ever before. Through standards like SWF, XHTML and CSS, QuarkXPress users can publish across media both independently and alongside Adobe Creative Suite applications, like Adobe Flash and Adobe Dreamweaver. The book outlines in more detail how QuarkXPress works with Creative Suite and the best practices that users should take when using these applications.

QuarkXPress and Photoshop are the two most widely used design applications and QuarkXPress is considered by many to have the best integration with Photoshop’s PSD file format of any layout tool available today. The book recommends when users should use the PSD file format for images and gives tips on how to get the best results.

Illustrator is another extensively used application and is used to create logos and vector illustrations. Traditionally, the route into QuarkXPress has been to export an EPS from Illustrator, however it is now possible to import native Illustrator editable PDF files into QuarkXPress. This gives much more flexibility and also the advantage of having an Illustrator file that can be easily shared across the organisation.

The introduction of Quark Interactive Designer has made it is easier than ever to output SWF (Flash®) files directly from QuarkXPress 7. Users can easily create interactive materials by leveraging the design precision and ease-of-use of QuarkXPress with the power and flexibility of the Flash format. This means that users can create for print, presentations and online multimedia without having to learn multiple applications.

“QuarkXPress now has better integration with Adobe Creative Suite than ever before and this free book highlights how users can leverage all applications to improve their design experience. QuarkXPress 7 now gives the user more creative latitude within one single application,” said Marc Horne a Quark expert and contributor. “We also looked at the benefits of some of QuarkXPress 7’s exclusive features including Quark Composition Zones®, Job Jackets® and Flash (SWF) Output and made some direct comparisons with Adobe InDesign.”

The book concludes with a feature comparison table that evaluates QuarkXPress and InDesign CS 3 in terms of how well each integrates with the other Creative Suite applications. It finds that QuarkXPress 7 not only integrates equally as well with the Adobe Creative Suite but also offers a host of exclusive features.

SoftCare K4 5.9: New Release Simplifies Publishing Processes with “Layout-in-Layout” Functionality
Press Release

Hamburg, January 15, 2008

Incorporating Adobe InDesign documents as complete layouts within other InDesign documents was one of the great product innovations of Adobe’s Creative Suite 3 last year. Now, this new feature is also supported by SoftCare K4: With its new “Layout-in-Layout” functionality, update 5.9 of the popular K4 publishing system sets a new standard in the publishing industry right at the beginning of the year. Designers are now able to place InDesign documents from K4 in other InDesign documents as often as they like. This innovation will benefit newspapers in particular, as they can use this new feature to produce regional and complete editions at the same time. SoftCare is probably the first provider who fully supports this Adobe CS3 function. Release 5.9 is available worldwide via SoftCare system integrators.

“Layout-in-Layout from K4 5.9 synchronises self-contained and hence mutually independent production processes before the copy deadline,” explains Christian H. Hollstein, Product Manager for SoftCare. Thus, the regional and overall editorial board of a newspaper can produce their pages in Adobe InDesign at the same time and even continue to edit them with K4 after the layouts have been merged. This function is also especially useful for the production and placement of advertisements: Once the ad layout is complete, they can be placed in several positions in the paper using K4.

K4 5.9 also comes with a new InDesign plug-in: SoftCare Content Activator. This new feature reactivates the contents of locked frames for further processing — for example, by freelancers or external printing service providers. SoftCare Content Activator is also available as a free download.

“To make K4 even more user-friendly, we incorporated a lot of suggestions for improvement from our users in version 5.9,” Hollstein continues. Several items, such as pictures, Word files or Excel spreadsheets can now be checked in and out at the same time using K4 File Manager. In addition to the issue-based mode, K4 Admin now enables users to export items, such as layouts, articles or pictures based on a query. A particularly interesting feature for new users: the K4 Client’s help commands offer direct access to the K4 Quick Reference Cards, making it easy for K4 users to call up the symbol overview at any time.

Nitro PDF Software Acquires PDF Download
One of the Web's most popular PDF products joins the Nitro PDF family

Nitro PDF Software, the company that revolutionized PDF software with its launch of the first true alternative to Adobe® Acrobatreg}, today announced the acquisition of PDF Download, one of the Web's most popular PDF products.
The free Firefox extension -- one of the most popular of all time -- helps millions of users regain control over the PDF files they encounter online, making browser crashes and slow downloads a thing of the past, while offering a free PDF-to-HTML conversion service.

Created by Denis Remondini, PDF Download has been downloaded more than 5.5 million times, is available in over 20 languages, and is providing more than half a million free PDF-to-HTML conversions per month.

With the network infrastructure required to support such incredible popularity, Nitro PDF Software has stepped in to allow the PDF Download service to remain free by providing the necessary bandwidth and hardware.

"We've always been huge fans of PDF Download," said Sam Chandler, CEO, Nitro PDF Software.

"PDF Download makes dealing with PDFs in Firefox a breeze, and the free PDF-to-HTML service is so useful. Everyone at Nitro is a PDF Download user, so we're excited to be able to support the product going forward."

For PDF Download users, there will be no change to the way the product functions, and it will remain free and open source. However, users will soon notice even faster PDF-to-HTML conversion speeds, and Nitro PDF Software intends to add several new features to the product in 2008.

Express Newspapers, one of the UK’s largest newspaper companies, selects WoodWing
ZAANDAM, THE NETHERLANDS (December 18, 2007) — WoodWing Software has been selected by the UK publisher Express Newspapers to supply Smart Connection Enterprise as the editorial platform for the Daily Express, the Daily Star, Ok! Magazine and several other publications.

With an average daily sale approaching two million copies, Express Newspapers is one of the largest newspaper publishing companies in the UK. After carefully evaluating the main suppliers of editorial solutions, the company decided to replace its existing QPS system with WoodWing’s Smart Connection Enterprise. At 700 seats, this is one of the larger members of the WoodWing family.

Smart Connection Enterprise fit the company's needs for an editorial system that is flexible and scalable. Also, for the Express one of the main selection criteria was Web and multi-media support. WoodWing’s blended media approach offered the required multi-channel publishing capabilities. Altogether, Smart Connection Enterprise was best suited to meet the ever-changing demands of the modern publisher.

“We are convinced the WoodWing system will give us the kind of performance we are looking for,” said Steve Draper, IT Director at the Express. “It is a young, forward-looking company which will work with us and our integrator Media Systems to deliver a system tailored to our needs. The flexible and open nature of the system was a key factor in the decision.”

“This is one of the largest and most successful publishing companies in the UK,” said Jeroen Sonnemans, WoodWing Europe’s Managing Director. “Their decision-making process was very thorough. The scale of the operation in terms of user numbers and multiplicity of sites dictated the need for an open, highly configurable yet robust solution; they knew precisely what they needed. Smart Connection Enterprise proves to be unbeatable in such cases.”

Media Systems Limited secured the contract, which combines Smart Connection Enterprise with Net Publish Enterprise, a content archiving solution from dutchsoftware.com, and a wire copy management system from FingerPost.

The Industry Measure Releases its Latest Survey of Graphic Design and Production Companies
The Industry Measure Releases its Latest Survey of Graphic Design and Production Companies
Thursday, December 20, 2007

The Industry Measure today released the latest results of its twice-yearly survey of the graphic design and production markets, the most recent in a series of surveys that the company has conducted since 1996. The 246-page report contains the results of an extensive mail survey of the creative markets, and features The Industry Measure's standard "boilerplate" questions about Business Conditions, Business Challenges, Sales Opportunities, and Planned Investments (as well as 12-month Investment Projections of more than 100 equipment, hardware, and software categories, including expected number of units shipped and dollar values). The Winter 2007/2008 survey also asked several specialty questions on such topics as stock photography (how many images per month creative companies buy as well as how much they spend); the extent to which creative companies are working on wide-format output projects, what the top applications are, and where those jobs are output; the perceived effects of and responses to the recent postal rate hike; the extent to which creative companies are working on multichannel marketing projects for clients, and which media channels comprise those projects; and more.

In addition to the results of the current survey, Design & Production #24 also draws on The Industry Measure's 13-year database of survey results to put current findings in historical perspective and examine how past and present trends will likely play out in the future. How are media trends affecting these companies? What is the role of print vs. new media in their service offerings? Where do they see their companies going in both the near- and long-term? What hardware, software, and equipment are they buying to meet their expected needs?

Industry Measure reports are available for online purchase at the Industry Measure eStore in PDF format (http://www.theindustrymeasure.com).

Researcher's Comments
"The Design & Production series of surveys complements The Industry Measure's other ongoing market surveys, such as Printing, Publishing, and Internet Design & Development. According to the Report
